bringst Licht in dunkle Schlafzimmerfenster

und die Nacht zum Schimmern.

Heute Abend, wenn du am Himmel stehst,

grüße ich dich!

To the three-quarter moon

We burst into raptures at the sight of the full moon.
Every child draws a crescent when they are asked to draw a moon.
And everyone knows the infamous line “It was a dark, moonless night”,
through which the black moon has come to honor.
But nobody says anything about the three-quarter moon!
Perhaps because the word does not roll off the tongue so smoothly?
Yet you shine for us for almost half a month,
bringing light into dark bedroom windows
and the night to shimmer.
Tonight, when you stand in the sky,
I greet you!

Prayer for Compassion

Today I ask for more compassion,

more empathy in this world.

That it becomes more than a like or a smilie on Facebook.

That an outcry in the face of an intolerable situation will become

becomes more than a regretful shrug of the shoulders the next day,

It becomes a movement that gets things moving,

that brings about change.

On a large scale as well as on a small one.

Mein Herdfeuer

Fasziniert vom Flackern,

vom Klappern der Pellets,

von der Wärme, die er ausstrahlt.

Und damit erfüllst du deinen Zweck,

wie seit jeher:

Ein Ort der Gemütlichkeit,

ein Ort, wo man zusammenkommt,

ein Ort, der ‚Willkommen‘ sagt.

My hearth fire
is not a fire of logs, with an open flame.
My hearth fire
is a state-of-the-art pellet stove, which is fed with small crumbs.
with small chunks of wood.
Not so romantic
and not so good smelling.

But still, everyone feels drawn there,
who comes into the living room.
Fascinated by the flickering,
the clatter of the pellets,
by the warmth it radiates.
And with that, you fulfill your purpose,
as you always have:
A place of coziness,
a place where people come together,
a place that says ‘welcome’.

Loslassen

Letting go

This is the moment when I have to draw a line.

A boundary between me and someone else who is dragging me down.

A boundary between me and an activity that puts additional stress on me.

A boundary, a deep trench, a final line-.

The main thing is that I maintain my self-esteem.

I make myself whole again,

by unraveling something.

I cut the knot that binds us,

and let go……

This is a very personal prayer, so I didn’t make a prayer card of it. But of yourse you may use it for your own purposes.

For my parents

Today I pray for my parents,

my companions from the beginning,

not always agreeing with me,

not always sharing my taste,

but always my support:

with a shoulder to cry on,

a cappuccino when I need someone to talk to,

always willing to give their time for me when I need help,

and proud of me no matter what I do.

I want you to know that I’m incredibly proud of you guys, too,

and grateful to be your daughter.

To you guys, I can probably never give that back,

I can only pass it on to the next generation,

be to my children or grandchildren what you are to me.

My wish is,

that you were able to fulfill your dreams,

that you tried the things that appealed to you

that you enjoyed what life had to offer you

that you don’t carry around the feeling that you’re missing something.

I wish you to have a lot of fun in life for a long time to come,

and that you can look into the future together in good health and with a clear mind.

For hope

Today I pray for hope,

this little flame,

indestructible,

that which remains when one has already given up.

May you never go out!

Gegen Antisemitismus

Against Anti-Semitism

A stone has remained, a stone with your name, with the place and day of your death.

A stone that stands out from the stones around it,

shining amidst granite and pavement.

Memory of a time,

when a nonsensical idea, a historical prejudice.

provided the template for a scapegoat, a way to blow off steam,

a way to blow off steam,

sometimes to enrich oneself.

A time of such unimaginable deeds,

that some deny to this day.

A time whose remnants

threaten to be generalized today: it is history.

I wish,

that we all find the strength

to make sure..,

that history does NOT repeat itself.

Was du tust,

Was ich hier tue,

For a friend far away

I extend my hand to you,
friend, from one place to another,
from afar I wave to you, for distance allows no more.

We are so far scattered,
Friend, and yet we belong together,
something unites us beyond all borders.

What you do,
friend, where you live,
I want to know, it’s important to me, it’s not done without reason.

What I do here,
Friend, it matters to you too, I hope,
many roots, but all nourish the one tree.

Open up

The waves come and go,

the breath of the sea,

an eternal up and down.

My breath comes and goes,

like the waves,

a steady in and out.

Today I pray with my whole body:

I let go of everyday life

and open myself completely to the unknown.

In and out – what awaits me?

In and out – who will I meet?

In and out – what do I take away from it?

Again and again – in and out.
